Bestseller alert!

Today If I Die Before I Wake is proudly sporting a jazzy orange flag on Amazon, because it is a NUMBER ONE BESTSELLER!

The rankings go up and down depending on prices and offers etc but I’ll take my successes where I can get them. Who knows how long it will last, but I am pretty chuffed to see it as number one in the “medical thrillers” section today.

When I was at university, I studied English Literature and somehow ended up living with not one, not two, but SEVEN medical students. I loved (and still love) them to bits but jeez, they could spend hours talking about things I had zero understanding of. Weird medical conditions, hospital politics, F2s and ST1s and …. yada yada yada.

If I Die Before I Wake shortlisted for The CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger

If I Die Before I Wake has made it onto the shortlist for the CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger.

I am still bouncing around with excitement after finding out last night – I’ve been lucky to have an amazing response from my readers far and wide already, so to be recognised like this within the industry as well is mindblowing. Hard work pays off, I guess?

An evening at Foyles and BBC Radio Bristol (again!)

I’ve just got back from another little trip to London for an evening event at Foyles Charing Cross, alongside debut authors Imogen Hermes Gowar and Mary Lynn Bracht.

It was a lovely event, chaired by Alex Clark, and there were some great questions from the audience at the end! I especially loved meeting people who came to get a copy of If I Die Before I Wake signed, and chatting to some of them about their own writing projects. One woman said she felt inspired by the event, which reminded me of how I have felt after hearing other writers talk. If you’re an aspiring writer, and have never been to listen to others talk – do it! It is a really energising thing to do.

If I Die Before I Wake news: an Amazon bestseller and 99p e-book bargain!

I woke up to the first day of February and some amazing news – If I Die Before I Wake was an Amazon bestseller!

With a great deal running at the moment – the e-book is 99p on Amazon – the sales of the book have had a really good week, and it peaked at number four in the Amazon fiction chart. It was also number one in the Kindle crime thrillers chart for a while.

Back home in the Bristol Post, appearing on BBC Radio Bristol and a review in the Sunday Express

Another fantastic week for If I Die Before I Wake!

Obviously, there was the launch of the hardback version of the book, and the wonderful party that went with it – but this week has been great for many other reasons, too.

The Bristol Post very kindly featured an article about the launch party in the paper the following day – it was lovely to be supported by the paper I worked at for eight years. My old editor Mike Norton also tweeted this photo of him buying a copy of the book. Three years ago, when I handed my notice in so that I could focus on writing If I Die, he surprised me by saying that he thought I could get published. Someone having faith in you at that stage is invaluable, and I’ve never forgotten it.

If I Die Before I Wake – the launch!

It has taken me a few days to recover but I wanted to say a few words about last Thursday.

If I Die Before I Wake was finally launched on January 11 as a hardback – and what a day it was! I had already started receiving messages the day before from people saying their copy had arrived via Amazon, and it just continued from there.

It has been more than three years since I left my job to focus on writing this book. It took 18 drafts. God knows how many hours. I can’t believe it is FINALLY out in the wild!
