WriteClub Masterclass: How to use research in your fiction writing
I'm delighted to announce that I will be returning to WriteClub to help run a masterclass in February 2019.The Sparks and Flames masterclass will take place on Saturday, February 16 from 10-1pm in Bristol and you can book your place here - hurry, spaces are limited!
You will discover ways to make your research work for you; find out how effective research can fuel your writing, making it all rich and delicious and fiery; and take a look at ways to use research to inspire new projects and breathe life into the flames of existing projects. For my debut novel If I Die Before I Wake, I interviewed doctors and nurses treating people with locked-in syndrome and learned to rock climb. I will present the whys and wherefores of good research, discussing which corners are worth cutting and how to make your fiction rock solid.I will be running the masterclass along with my good friend and fellow writer Alison Powell, who used her interest in the 1966 Aberfan mining disaster as a starting point for her prize-winning manuscript When the Mountain Swallowed the Morning. She'll show you how following your own curiosity can lead you to fantastic characters and great stories. The masterclass will be at HOURS, 10 Colston Yard, Colston Street, Bristol , BS1 5BD. Booking essential - £45. Book here.I co-founded the Bristol-based WriteClub with Alison in 2016, running creative writing workshops that provided original and lively stimuli to inspire writing and a space for writers to enjoy sharing their work. WriteClub is still going, but in 2018 I left the business in order to focus on my own writing and being a mum. I can't wait to go back for this masterclass!
