Read a piece of my flash fiction as part of virtual sound sculpture Aeolus Online

Back in 2015 I saw an interactive exhibit at Cheltenham Jazz Festival - this beautiful cabinet created by Mike Blow.

When you opened each drawer you heard recordings of winds from all over the world.

I loved it so much I was inspired to write a piece of flash fiction about a woman called Eva and her little boy Tommy; about grief, ashes and enduring love. It became my first piece of published fiction in the National Flash Fiction Day anthology LANDMARKS. That was a year before I got my book deal for If I Die Before I Wake.

Today, it launches in an online form - come and listen, be transported!

Aeolus Online

Aeolus Online features recordings of winds from across the world and you can even submit your own. I'm very proud to be involved - you will find my piece of flash fiction, 'Scattered', included at the website.

Aeolus Online is a collaboration between Mike Blow and art production company Hogarth Productions.
At the start of 2020, as the pandemic began to limit the opportunities for live events, funding was granted to develop the idea.

In a year of isolation and difficulties, Mike hopes that his work can bring people together.

“The sheer variety of sounds is wonderful, and I hope that especially in challenging times they bring us a sense of togetherness,” he said. “No matter where in the world it is from, the wind is familiar to all of us, and speaks of distant origins and destinations, of the past and of the future.”
